Gaston
Gaston was born Aug 2021 and is a happy and social pit/lab mix. He is a very sweet and playful boy. His story will tug at your heart. He was found as a stray that was severely underweight with a severe case of mange but has come a very long way.
Gaston is housebroken, crate trained, neutered, fully vaccinated & micro-chipped. He is making progress with leash manners as he pulls a bit but is making progress and knows some basic commands. He gets along well with other dogs. He is looking for a home with another dog to help with his confidence. A home with older children would be fine and someone willing to take him on walks is a must.
Here is what his foster mom had to say recently:
Gaston is the shy silent type he takes his time studying you. He needs to know he can trust you and once he does he comes to life. He had a ruff start to life. He was found in Heard county severely underweight and with a horrible case of demodex. He was completely shut down. He was brought to my clinic by animal control and when I removed him from his kennel I knew he was special. He was so trusting with us knowing we were there to help he. He allowed us to bathe him and car for his skin every day. Never once fighting us knowing he was safe.
I knew he had a ways to go to heal so I felt my home was the best place to do that. He was still very shut down but started to come out of his shell. He found comfort in my older dog and she made him feel safe. Even though she pretended to not like him I knew she enjoyed his company as we had lost her companion a few months prior. They eventually became friends and would play together. Gaston always careful with her as she is older. Gaston has not met a dog that he doesn’t want to friends with.
He does warm up to dogs much faster than he does to humans. One he does warm up to you he will great you with the cutest “woo, woos” and tail wags. He can be very talkative when his is excited but is mostly a very quiet dog. He loves his crate as it is his safe zone as thing still make him scared. He would do better in a quieter home with older kids. As he has done great with my kids, he is still afraid of the louder more boisterous kids and will go to his kennel if it’s too loud.
When it is quiet he will crawl up on the couch to snuggle with you. He would do better in a home with another dog and would make a great companion for any size dog. He has not been tested with cats but does not have a high prey drive. We are working on leash manners but he gets better everyday as he is eager to please. He does spend time at doggy daycare, so he is well socialized with other dogs. He would be fine in any type of activity level home. He knows how to be lazy but is also up for adventure. Gaston would make a great companion for someone willing to give him a chance
